My art deals primarily with identifying common spaces, gardens, entrances, exits. and I tell you about, myself by letting you see through my own eyes for just a moment. Rather than being a destination art has become a journey along a path of increasing awareness and sensitivity. Teaching becomes a means of awakening perception.
As an artist-teacher, I instruct the future and try to bring not only knowledge and experience, but the ability to challenge and stimulate ideas. Teaching and the making of art offers me the opportunity for personal creative expression. Students arid art ... a life's work made pleasurable when both come together.
Cheryl O'Halloran McLeod is a pastel artist with vision. She knows how to use her talents, skills, and intuition creating magical moments--- opportunities to experience the familiar as new... intimate ... personal. From portraits and still lifes to landscapes and architectural paintings, viewers cannot help becoming involved ... enchanted ... challenged.
Using the medium of Degas, Cassatt, and Chardin, McLeod shares her special gift ... a sensitivity to colors, texture, and light. She is able to capture the richness, indeed the lusciousness, of a plethora of colors. Lively and fresh, her work reflects the excitement where dark meets light and colors play.
Further, she can capture the luminescence of a fleeting moment when the light dances on the landscape ... a moment that might have otherwise escaped. Her portraits portray not only the likeness of the individual but also an intangible essence and radiance from within.
McLeod offers insight, interpretation, and introspection ... a rare glimpse of truth, beauty, and the human condition. Her style is impressionistic, her work contemporary.
A former resident of Boston and the Southwest before returning to her native Midwest, McLeod earned her bachelor's degree in art education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Graduate study then led her to Massachusetts College of Art and Boston University. In recent years, her rich, energetic style has matured under study with Daniel Greene of New York, Albert Handel of New Mexico, and Robert Cormier of Massachusetts.
An associate member of the Pastel Society of America and an artist member of the American Artist Professional League, McLeod is playing an important role in the current resurgence of pastel painting in the United States.
